Me and My Dehydrator

I can now say that my "Rawfood Kitchen" is complete with the addition of my Excalibur  9 tray Dehydrator.  I truly thought that I would be able to hold out a little longer purchasing one, but now that I have it I have been a dehydrating fool. Here she is...

And here she is on her first run...

Well, what did I make you ask???  First let me say that I used the following books for most of the recipes...And a couple from my Twitter friend @28cooks.

As I type this the dehydrator is still going...Pizza Crust and tomato wraps.  I am totally enjoying the new addition to my rawfood kitchen and I'm welcoming any recipes that you would like to share!  Happy New Year to Everyone!

I Love New York!

This past weekend in NYC was one of the best weekends I've had in a very long time!   I took the  DC to NY bus which was great!  One of my favorite parts of this trip is that I was able to experience it with my Russian friend, Tatiana, who had never been to NYC.  We also went to see Tori Amos at the Beacon.  Needless to say, she was awesome!  Thanks to my friend Connie, who is a childhood friend of Tori's, we had awesome seats and went backstage.  And I was finally able to go to Pure Food and Wine which is now my must go to restaurant when I'm in NYC!

A Little of This and a Little of That

I'de like to begin this post by saying...As we reflect, watch the videos and listen to Heavy D's music, listen for what you will not hear...the cursing, the misogyny, drug pushing, gang affiliation and the advocation of killing those within our community!  May his music live on!!! R.I.P. Heavy D


Now...this is what I've been up to lately...


Brunch on Sunday with my BFF and her Mother-In-Law at one of my favorite places, Great Sage.  I love taking non-vegans to my favorite vegan spots and I love it more when they enjoy their food and say that they will be back.  I had the cheesy broccoli quiche and an espressotini...Both Amazing!!!!

My new obsession is Love Street Living Foods Chocolate Coconut Spread which I eat with a banana...
EVERYDAY!!!

Got to work on Monday and one of my co-workers was complaining of a sore throat...Unfortunately it's that time of year.  Something that I saw on Twitter came to mind..."Citrus Detox".  I could not wait to get home to make this for myself...
Juiced oranges, grapefruits and lemons...Down the hatch!
And a big spinach salad with lots of fruits and veggies for dinner with my killer dressing on it!
The dressing...1/3c Amino Acid, 2tbs Toasted Sesame Oil, 4tbs Nooch, 1tbs Agave, 3/4c Olive Oil
Used sparingly this dressing is so delicious.  Also good on soba noodles and broccoli too.

Think I've found a new dynamic duo...
Oh yea baby!!!!

One final note.  Can someone tell me why the baby toe always comes out of the toe socks??????

STOP THE PRESSES...for this chocolate cupcake!

Is there a perfect cupcake? Well, I think that I just made it.  I've been wanting to make this chocolate cupcake for a while.  Well, here it is....

Look at the chocolate morsels and the moistness.

I followed the recipes exactly and what I came up with was a deliciously, moist, chocolatey cupcake.   I was so anxious that I actually ate one before it completely cooled.  OMG!  Chocolate warmth in my mouth.  I will definitely make these again, really soon.   43 recipes done.  That is all!!

More with Happy Herbivore and a Girly Beer

Beginning this blog with the Black Bean Burger(pg 86).  I am going to be totally honest here.  I am not a big fan of beans.  Nothing against her recipes that call for beans, I'm just not that into them.  I may be the only vegan that does not like green beans...at all!!!!   Ok, now that we have that clarified.  I followed the recipes exactly and I must say that this burger was so full of flavor.  My mouth was not over powered by the beans which is usually the case in most bean burgers.  I did leave it in the oven for an additional 2 minutes so that the outside would be extra crisp.  Pleasantly surprised! Once again The Happy Herbivore has outdone herself.

Truly, the picture does not do these Onion Rings justice.  I followed the recipe exactly.  They were crispy on the outside, and the onion was perfectly soft on the inside.  Great flavoring on the batter.  They held together very well when taken out of the oven and off of the cookie sheet.  A little messy on the fingers when making them but they were well worth it.

When making my dessert for this post, I had every intention of making the chocolate cupcakes.  My mouth was totally set on making them.  Had all the ingredients except the chocolate non-dairy milk, so I made these instead.  I followed the recipe exactly, except for the icing obviously...it was a little runny.  The cupcake was moist and had great flavor.  I think the fact that I had my heart set on the chocolate cupcake this one just did not fit the bill for me tonight.  Don't get me wrong it is an awesomely good cupcake but sometimes a girl needs her chocolate...you feel me?  42 recipes done!
